Need Some New Music?

If you do, and like the random indie band, then you've come to the right place. The band I am talking about is called The Thermals. They originated in Portland, Oregon in 2002, and didn't get recognized much until their third album, The Body, The Blood, The Machine in 2006 (which in my opinion is their best album). I was able to see them live in Portland in 2006 for the CD release show, where they put on an awesome live show. They're one of those bands that sound the same live as they do in their albums, and they put on a very energetic show.
So if you've been looking for a new band, check out The Thermals, you might like what you hear.
Here's the first song off the album The Body, The Blood, The Machine:

NYTimes Article: Chemistry With a Toybox of Instruments (Paper Clips Included)

Many people have a preconceived notion that all classical music is dull and boring. One group is out to change peoples opinions. A group of composers/performers is adding a new twist to classical music. They aim to make it more engaging and entertaining. These performers do not usually work together and do not spend hours and hours tediously practicing their performances. They use a wide variety of instruments ranging from the normal violin to guitars with paper clips. They also use bells, clappers and wine glasses. Their new take on classical music has been a big hit with their audiences.

Why are new bands, more concerned with aesthetic than music?

It seems to me that newer bands have lost focus on what really matters, when it comes to music, playing music, and creating a truly great song or record. In the days of the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and Led Zeppelin all that mattered was writing the best possible song and creating the best possible record and originality, yes doing and creating music that noone else before had.  Nowadays, rock bands have become more concerned with straightening their hair and putting on enough makeup to look rock and roll, while the bands and music have all begun to look and sound the same, cookie cutter rock bands, only concerned with how they look on stage and not the least concerned with what or how they are playing.
